Day 3, we set off for Shigatse (日喀则) (officially Xigaze according to Wikipedia but I prefer to use Shigatse, sounds nicer). There are 2 ways to get there. We took the mountainous road which has to go through 3 mountain pass to get there. Up and down 3 very high mountains. We used the other way which runs along Yarlung Tsangpo River to get back to Lhasa.

The 3 pass that we passed are:

  1. Kambala Pass
  2. Karula Pass
  3. and Similar Pass

Not far away after leaving Lhasa, we stop by along the road to visit this Giant Wall Buddha. Check out all the Katas on the cliff, wonder how they managed to stick them so high.

Yang Zhen, our guide said that there’s a river burial site below here. So I climbed down to check it out.

I think this is the place where they chopped up the bodies and feed it to the fish.

Found an axe and cleaver there as well. Looks like there’s blood stain on the cleaver. The guide explained a bit on the river burial to me. I gonna post a entry just for Tibetan Burials. Check back later for it.

Before we head up to Kambala Pass, we stopped by the road side to let go because there won’t be any toilet on the way and its not very good to stop halfway while climbing the mountain.

At the top of Kambala Pass is Yamdrok Lake (羊卓雍錯) or Yamdrok Yumtso. The scenery here is simply breathtaking.

Paid RMB5 to sit on the Yak. Pay the fee and can take any amount of pictures you want. The owner even helped to take picture. I think the Yak is sleeping, coz it’s eyes are shut, thats why it didn’t really move a lot.
